Rainbow over the village.
The Aldinga Arts EcoVillage is a sustainable housing development located at 173 Port Road, Aldinga, a suburb south of Adelaide, South Australia.

The Village is an intentional community based around the principles of permaculture, with a focus on the arts and the environment. If you are interested in more detail, use the following link to a case study of the Village prepared for CSIRO by Villager Dr Vanda Rounsefell (2.2 MB)

Thanks to the dedication and drive of a number of passionate and committed people, after fifteen years of planning and organising - with a number of twists and turns along the way - the Village is now coming to fruition.

The Village Community is now in the early stages of formation, with around 43 completed houses and a number more currently being built or in the active planning phase.

Physically, the village currently consists of 169 commercial and residential lots, communal neighbourhood orchards, eight stormwater collection points or dams, and an amphitheatre for outdoor performance events and gatherings.

The site also incorporates a small farm that will be developed to enhance our food sustainability, and an associated small-scale wastewater treatment plant that directs treated sewage effluent from the Village to agricultural use. The treatment process is biologically based and chlorine free.

Additionally, over the next few years, a number of community buildings will be constructed, including an art gallery, a theatrette, artist / artisan studios, a Community Centre, and public waterless composting toilets.

You can get a 'feel' for our Community and its forming culture from this "Welcome Pack" we circulate to new members.
