Neighbours working
The Aldinga Arts Eco Village has been established on principles of “Permaculture”, which seek to ensure the long-term sustainable habitation of human society within the natural environment. Our own vision derives from the Permaculture aspiration to care for the Earth, care for people in community, and ensure that each individual is using only their fair share of resources.

Immersed as we all are in a national and global culture of greed and consumerism, Permaculture principles are quite a big leap - but we all agree it is a leap we must make. Any step forward we can make together is a step in the right direction.

In addition to these sustainability principles, our Village espouses concepts of non-violence, the celebration of diversity, the creation of community by working together, sharing artwork and other creative activities, and establishment of shared traditions.

The biggest task ahead of us is the creation of our shared Community Hub in Market Street in the centre of the Village. This will involve the building of a new “Community House” and, over time, the renovation of a number of existing buildings

We are also working collectively within the various “Neighbourhoods” of the Village to develop a productive, attractive, people-friendly and wildlife-friendly landscape around the homes as they are built.

Because there are many young families in our Community, kids are vital participants in our village life.

Throughout the Village, our landscapes are being developed to contain interesting play spaces integrated with productive gardens and plantings of indigenous species.
