Neighbourhood Groups (NHG)
The Neighbourhood Groups, groups of spatially clustered lots within the Village, were initially formed by the Natural Environment Committee (NEC) to help maintain the common land. Working within these Groups helps to involve people in a common goal and to reflect on shared ideas for the surrounding local area.
The three stages (land release areas) of the Village are divided up into five Neighbourhood Groups. The area for each Group, was determined by the location of a cluster of lots, being in close proximity to a shared street / pond area.
A new 6th Neighbourhood Group has recently been formed for the newly completed Seaberry Walk precinct on the Port Rd frontage (labelled “The Cottages” in the map below).
The contact person/s in each group is/are responsible for organising working bees and communicating information between the Group, the NEC and the Maintenance Team (see below for contacts).
By being involved, volunteers within the Neighbourhood Groups are helping to maintain their local shared Common Land areas, which will reduce overall maintenance costs for the Community Corporation. Maintenance consists of tidying up, weeding, tree planting, watering, etc., initially concentrating on the orchards, mounds, stormwater swales and ponds.
Villagers and Neighbourhood Groups are also encouraged to clear weeds on their individual lots, especially around boundary pegs, water taps and service boxes, (near or on their property). They should also observe, repair, and report any maintenance issues to the Works Maintenance Group (WMG).
Creative ideas and designs for landscaping can be developed on a particular area of common land by applying to the Natural Environment Committee. Details of the application process can be found in the NHG manual and within the NEC (Landscape Design) pages of the AAEV website.
By working together, we will be nurturing the growth of our Neighbourhoods, as plantings are developed into gardens and friendships into community.
It is expected that Neighbourhood Groups will send representatives as required to both the Natural Environment Committee and Works Maintenance Group to aid communication and networking.
