Hard Rubbish Collection - Friday 26 Feb

News
I have organised another Council hard
waste collection for Friday 26 February.
This will be one of the largest skips available,
at 25 m2.
This is the first of two skips that we are allocated for the year, so take advantage of this service, as it replaces each household's twice yearly hard rubbish curbside service.
Please do not ring council to book your individual collection, they will probably refuse. If you have waste at other times of the year, please take it to the dump.
Better still, post something on the feed and see if anyone wants it first! Let's make an effort to reuse and reduce our waste.
PLEASE DO NOT put your hard rubbish in the recycling bay in between skip services. We are not running a dump. Notice from the photos below that there are already unsuitable items left in the recycling area, which will require volunteer labor to deal with. Our Village relies on volunteers, self responsibility, and everyone being informed. The recycling bay is managed by volunteers, there is no "Council" here, no "them", there is just "us" trying to manage our waste and keep our village tidy. Please help by taking responsibility for your actions.
To avoid the problems we had last year, and to facillitate recycling and re-use, I would like to trial an Alternative Hard Waste process:
Step One - Go through your stuff and make sure that it meets the following criteria:
YES
- Household Furniture
- Steel - (not in skip, separated for collection)
- Metals
- Carpet
- Mattresses
NO
- Chemicals
- Oils
- Paints
- Vehicle Tyres
- Asbestos
- Vehicle Batteries
- E-Waste -(computers, printers, phones, TV, Stereo etc)
Step Two - On the Saturday before pickup, put these items in your driveway, on your porch, or on your verge, for people to come and take if they wish. Then go for a walk around our beautiful village and see what your neighbour is throwing out, remember - someone's trash is someone else's treasure! (this is the fun, social bit).
Step Three - On Sunday take what is left to the recycling bay and carefully place your items in the skip, please be mindful of packing it in tightly so as to avoid big empty spaces underneath.
Please note - place any steel products in a neat pile next to the skip as these can be recycled. (wheel barrow frames, bike frames, ladders, white goods). Please keep it tidy; please only fill to the rim; and consider others who will have to clean up after you if you leave a mess.
Please do not put E - Waste (i.e. computers / printers / tv's) in the skip - The council will be posting out to each household information about E-waste. On 27 March there will be an opportunity to take any unwanted computers / printers / tv's to a drop off centre in Chrysler Rd Lonsdale for recycling.
Did you know that 98% of E-waste can be reclaimed? It usually costs $15 per item to drop off E-Waste for recycling. On 27 March the council has pledged to pay $10 per item, so consumers only have to pay $5. Perhaps we could get together and take one car-load of E-Waste? Anyone got any?
See you at the Waste & Recycling info evening next Tuesday 16 February, 7.30pm at the Sharing Shed.
Thanks for your support - Bridget O’Donnell
