PDF Directory update

The printer-friendly PDF Directory of Community phone and email contacts has now been updated. You can find it on the “Documents” page of the Members section at:
http://www.aaev.net/page146/private_documents/files/AAEV_Directory_100817.pdf

The Community has two directories of phone and email contacts:

1. An HTML directory in the Members section of the website under “Directory” in the menu at: http://www.aaev.net/page146/directory/index.html

2. A PDF directory located on the Members Documents page at the link given in the first paragraph above

The HTML version is continuously updated whenever new details come to hand. It is the best place to find the latest contact numbers, but it is not suitable for printing out as it will produce over 30 pages!

The PDF Directory, on the other hand, is updated every 1-2 months but, at 9 pages in total, is much more “printer friendly”. If you want a directory in hard copy by the phone, this is the one to print.

As usual, if you find any errors in the directories, or need to update your details, please let me know.

We still need a Magazine editor

We still need to find a new Editor for our Village magazine, Community Life.

The magazine fills a different communications niche to the News Feed, with potential to cover interviews, photos, creative art, reflective and creative writings, and advertising for Village enterprises.

Please get in touch if you think you can help us. We need this avenue of communication, and you will have free rein to approach it with your own creative ideas.

Deletion of "spent" notices in the News Feed

Our website is gradually becoming larger over time as data is added. To avoid maintenance problems arising, I will need to begin a more active program of pruning files. This will initially involve deleting “spent” items from the News section.

From now on, I will be deleting notices of sale, swap, give-away, loan, topical comment required, etc, after one month - unless you give me a specific different instruction with your item.

(Event notices are, of course, deleted once the event has occurred.)

Please let me know if this is going to be a problem to anyone.

A new photo for the AAEV home page

Hi everyone,

The lovely photo of Village kids with the Echidna Lantern has served us well on the home page of our community website at http://www.aaev.net, but it is getting rather out of date. The young villagers in the photo have grown up so much since Justin’s lantern workshop!

It would be nice to feature a new front-page pic. So, if you have a suitable digital photo, please send it in for consideration. [Note: the photo could be of an art work rather than a photo from life so long as it conforms to the “rules” below.]

“Rules”
The photo must have been taken at medium or high resolution
I needs to express at least two of: “Arts”, “Ecoliving, and Community
Any people featured in the photo must be willing for it to be used in this way.

Send your entries to me on CD or as an email attachment.

Once I have a number of possibilities in hand, I will post them on the website so folks can vote on which one to choose for the home page.

(Others could potentially be used to illustrate other pages of the website if the owners are willing.)

Latest Village "Census"

The Village is really growing now! Here’s the result of a quick census through the Village Directory at the beginning of our new planning year:

Number of Residents at 30/9/09:

Stages 1&2 -- 75 adults plus 34 children (under 18)
Stage 3 -- 25 adults plus 4 children

Total -- 100 adults plus 38 Children = 138 total residents

Additional Residents likely in the near future (e.g., six months), based on 14 detached homes and 24 Cottages now under construction:

Stages 1&2 -- 23 adults plus 11 children
Stage 3 -- 2 adults plus 2 children
Cottages -- 29 adults plus 4 children

Total -- 54 adults plus 17 children = 71 additional persons

The figures will be pretty close but are not guaranteed 100% accurate since the directory is an evolving list that changes frequently as people send in new details.

Getting online on Village Forum

Our Village Online Forum is the place to be. The more of us who join in, the better, more lively, more informative and more effective it will be.

So be sure to register and get online for chat, helpful hints, sale or exchange of goods, Neighbourhood Group discussions, and general discussion Village plans and issues.

The ATTACHED instruction sheet prepared by Lucy C will tell you how to register and join in.

New interactive Village web "Forum"

For the next few months, we will be trialing a new interactive Village Forum accessible from “Forum” in the main menu of our Community website at: www.aaev.net. Be sure to check it out.

It is similar to “Whirlpool Forums” and allows self-posting of comment and information on a range of items at various levels of privacy and security.

You will need to register when you first use the Forums and, if you wish to participate in topics specific to our Village, you will be able to request password protected Village membership to join these topics.

There are topic-specific forums, Neighbourhood Group forums, a buy / sell / swap / give-away “bazaar”, and a carpooling forum.

Kevin C has set up the system and he, Lucy C and Jane O’C will be moderating as needed. If you need help to find your way around the system one of this group will be able to help you. Don’t be shy - ask for help if you need it - and please give feedback and comments to Kevin so the system can continue to evolve.

Aerial photos of AAEV

This past week we have received two lots of interesting and potentially very useful aerial photos of the Village.

Tricia has been able to make available to use a large series of arial photographs of the Village and Farm, with street names overlaid. As these are taken from directly overhead, they will be very useful for planning in Neighbourhood Groups. They have been posted in “doc” and PDF format on the “NEC Documents” page of the website (first two items) at:
http://www.aaev.net/management/nec/nec_documents/index.html
Note that both are large files (3 MB)

In addition, on Monday, Annette and Dick Inwood went on a great flight in the "Wacco" from the Aldinga Airfield, and took some photos of the Village.  They are show below for all to enjoy.

Thinking of selling? Remember the Web

Hi everyone,

There were several enquiries about lots for sale from people passing through the Information Stand at the Fringe last night. We suggested they keep an eye on our Community website at www.aaev.net for property sales under "About" in the Homepage menu.

So - if your plans are changing and you are thinking of selling rather than building, don't forget to list on our community website. Send me the relevant details for posting by email or phone 8556 6892.

Using our Village noticeboard

If you live in the Village and receive your email news as a hard-copy print-out from a local "Email Buddy", you might like to consider using the noticeboard instead and letting your email buddy off the hook (as well as saving paper etc). Our news digest is now regularly posted on the noticeboard as soon as the email version arrives and is generally left up for a week to give you time to read at least the two latest bulletins. Why not stick a pencil and notepaper in your pocket and check it out.
