(‘Google’ it to read the possibilities).

I have been harvesting the carobs in Clematis orchard and there is a large crop. Feel free to pick them and store them. I will have a bucket with them on our front verandah for anyone to help themselves.

If anyone has any ideas or contacts for processing or marketing them I would be keen to hear from you.

It would be good if someone were doing a similar harvest of the Carob crop in Stage 3 if it is not already being done.

Any excess to Village requirements the Food Forest will take off our hands.

Currently there are concerns by Villagers about the use of glyphosate as a weed (mainly couch grass) control tool on common land. The Management Committee (MC) has recently instructed the Works group to suspend its use of this tool on common land until a decision can be made by the Community at the General Meeting in March 2010.
 
So the Community can make an informed decision at the GM, the MC would like to commission a person(s) to provide a background paper with the following scope:
 
1. Undertake a literature review on the use, effects and efficacy of glyphosate
 
2. Provide a summary of the control of couch in the Village
 
2. Provide a summary of alternative weed control techniques particularly for couch
 
3. Make recommendations about the use of glyphosate and weed control strategies for the Village common land
 
The scope will also include requesting submissions/comments from Villagers to be included in the research.

MOCK CHAMPAGNE PUNCH :
3 litres canned unsweetened pineapple juice
juice of 8 lemons and 3 limes
2 cups sugar
4 litres dry ginger ale
2 litres sparkling soda water
sliced fruit to float in punch eg 1 punnet strawberries
 
Stir ingredients together, pour over a block of ice and serve.

EU looks to banning “wonky fruit” - AGAIN! Until the so-called “wonky fruit” ban was lifted in July last year, EU rules dictated the shape and size of produce, from apricots to watermelons, effectively banishing from commercial trade all but the most perfect specimens. At the time the ban was lifted, EU Agriculture Commissioner Marianne Fischer Boel declared: "We simply don't need to regulate this sort of thing at EU level. It is far better to leave it to market operators – and in these days of high food prices and general economic difficulties, consumers should be able to choose from the widest range of products possible. It makes no sense to throw perfectly good products away, just because they are the 'wrong' shape." Unfortunately, this was too sensible.
